Photos With Emma

Howdy, I’m Arthur, and I am a film photographer currently living in Seattle, WA. I love seeing new places, so if I am not actively on a road trip, I am planning my next one. In fact, I am writing this from a lovely campsite in Nevada right now. In order to make traveling often a reality, I converted my Subaru Outback into a 2nd home on wheels. I have this “van” build to thank for a lot of the things in my life that I hold dear – traveling, of course, is the obvious gift it has given me. But alongside that, it made me consider what is really important to me. I mean, I have to fit everything I need inside a vehicle mostly meant for suburban soccer moms. The clothes, the kitchen utensils, all the necessities were easy to pare down; but as a serial hobbyist, I was faced with the daunting task of choosing what I wanted to bring with me for fun. For each big trip, I have to decide between climbing, backpacking, biking, drawing, stamp-making, and more. Nowadays, the one hobby that will always have space on my trips is my camera equipment, but before the car build this wasn’t the case.
Two years ago, I was getting ready to leave for my first major road trip after finally finishing the build. It was a 2 monther around the United States from Cleveland, OH out to the west coast and back. I am a meticulous planner and Google Sheets fanatic, so having spent months planning this trip, I thought I was completely ready for it. A week before I left, I realized… I didn’t have a camera to take any photos on. I had no experience with photography other than the very casual use of my phone camera, but it just felt wrong to be taking such a grand trip and not having a way to properly document it.
