The Poetry of Real Life – in Photographs

Frederick Fairytale is a Berlin-based photographer whose work transforms everyday life into quiet, poetic narratives. With a deep fascination for people, places, and the small truths found in ordinary moments, he photographs the world with curiosity and emotional honesty. Drawing inspiration from music, cinema, literature, and the visual rhythm of the streets, he approaches each frame as a fragment of a larger story. In this interview, Frederick reflects on his creative beginnings, his love for documenting real life, and the thoughtful, atmospheric style that has become his signature.
Could you start by introducing yourself to our readers?
My name is Frederick Fairytale, which is actually not my birth name. I am a Berlin boy by nature, and this city still got me. I have a day-job, as an Audio Engineer to make a living. And I do photography as well. To discover and document what I see in the world.
When did you first become interested in photography, and what sparked your passion for capturing the world around you?
I had a good friend back then at school whose father is a professional photographer, and one day I realized that he photographed people in a way I was really impressed by. I also saw all these great photos on fotocommunity (I wouldn’t look for inspiration there anymore) and wanted to create such photos myself. I borrowed a mirrorless cam from a friend for a while and always went out and during the night in Berlin after school and on the weekends. I found it very interesting experimenting with the camera settings at different scenes in the streets. It was mainly a kind of still life I found in the streets but I also took the cam with me when I was with friends and photographing the moments we had together. So I think I am in need for capturing life – my own and some glimpse of moments from the people I met.
